SPOILER FÖR S4
General Season 4 Spoilers:
03/28 - Yes, indeedy, [Lena is coming back]. And I hear getting more money than GOD per episode (well, if God were a, um, guest star). Olin has agreed to return for a multiple episode arc at the end of this season. Jack and Sloane are UP TO SOMETHING, and it will tie into another major plotline in a way that will shock you. David Anders and Bradley Cooper ar also returning. Source: Kristin on E!Online
03/23 - The deal with Lena Olin closed last week and Syd's mama will be back for the big 90-minute season finale on May 25. And no one is more relieved than J.J. Abrams. "It's something I've been trying to do for a long time," he says. "I was hoping all year that we would be able to pull this off, and we managed to. I have to give a lot of credit to her agents, who were incredibly helpful in making this happen, because this is certainly a story that we wanted to tell. We're really excited about it." Source: Ask Ausiello @ TVGuide
03/21 - Nothing official yet [about Lena coming back], but the offer is out there, and it looks like it actually might happen. There is a reason why Lauren is frozen. In upcoming episodes, we will see more of Sydney and Vaughn together, and that's indicative of the tension clearing ...Syd teams up with him to get to finally figure out what the deal is with his Dad. And she'llput everything on the line to help him. Source: Kristin on E!Online
03/15 - We will see Carrie, Lauren and Will again soon. Alias is getting a 90-minute finale. Source: Kristin on E!Online
03/14 - There will be a connection between Vaughn and Nadia. Source: TV Gal's Column on Zap2it (Thanks Suz for the tip.)
03/08 - Michael Vartan is not leaving the show. Jack and Vaughn leave L.A., traveling to meet with people that have something to do with their respective pasts. The backstory about Vaughn's father becomes more complicated and may be linked to someone in Sydney's family. And, FYI, we still haven't seen the last of Lauren. Source: Kristin on E!Online
03/01 - JJ has made another offer to Lena Olin to bring her back for May sweeps, but so far, no agreement. Sound familiar? Yep, we heard this one last season. But I'm hoping that with Alias' newfound ratings boost - best EVER - they might be pulling in enough money to woo her back. If you remember, last season, my sources told me Lena asked for an INSANE amount of money - more than Jen was making per episode. A storyline involving Lauren (Melissa George) this week will mark the beginning of some dark days for Vaughn. Next week, he'll be stunned by some secrets having to do with his daddy and he's not going to take it lightly. It's all that shiznit JJ Abramswas teasing to earlier this month. And because I love him and can, I'm reprinting it: "We have I think a really surprising story. Something's going on between Jack, Sydney's father and Sloane that is, sort of, part of what this whole season is about that you'll start to sort of see signs of. And I can tell you that Vaughn receives some very disturbing information about someone very close to him and it sort of sends him on a tangent that is this crazy life and death story that ends up coming back to the main story of the show, which I think is pretty cool. I hope people like it." Source: Kristin on E!Online
02/22 - For May Sweeps, and if a deal can be worked out, Irina Derevko will return from the dead. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TVGuide
02/14 - From JJ himself: “We have a really, I think, surprising story coming up. Something’s going on between Jack, Sydney’s father, and Sloane that is, sort of, part of what this whole season is about, that you’ll start to see signs of. And I can tell you that Vaughn receives some very disturbing information about someone very close to him and it sends him on a tangent that is sort of this crazy life and death story that ends up coming back to the main story of the show, which is, I think, pretty cool. I hope people like it.” Oh, daddy. I think you guys will. Source: Kristin on E!Online
01/26 - Someone one of the main characters once knew is not dead. Source: Kristin on E!Online
01/11 - Syd might have yet another undiscovered relative. She and Nadia will find a photo of her mother with a blood-link they've never seen before. And also, Vaughn has some serious family mystery to be resolved this season. Not everything with his familial past is what it seems. Source: Kristin on E!Online
01/04 - I will say this to those of you who know [who's being killed]: The person who did that killing might be somewhat obvious given the cliffhanger of last season, but the REASON that person killed is a big shocking twist that I promise you, you do NOT want to know! We'll see Syd and Vaughn smooch a little smooch in the office. Greg Grunberg (Weiss) will probably miss two episodes while filming his Pilot, "The Catch". Vaughn sets fire to his own house. Source: Kristin on E!Online
01/03 - Sydney is drafted into another "black-ops" CIA unit. Source: Cynthia Littleton's Hollywood Reporter story featured on multiple sites. (Thanks to Philip for the pointer)
01/03 - The show will have more stand-alone episodes, they're easing off of the Rambaldi storyline. We'll see Syd at home more this season, and of course she'll be wearing lots of costumes and wigs. Nadia will be doing a lot of fight scenes.Source: Kristin on E!Online
01/03 - TVGuide and others disclosed the name of the person who'll be murdered. We won't tell here, but just search the episode guides fort the coming weeks if you REALLY want to know.
12/13 - Another clue about the death: This person to whom we'll say goodnight, is both good and evil and loves a good fight. Nadia is not the killer. Source: Kristin on E!Online [Note from Izzy: If they didn't change the plan from when I got the name of who dies (sorry, I can't tell you), it's a female who's going to bite the dust.]
12/10 - Isabella Rossellini revealed that she was asked to reprise her role of Katya Derevko in at least one episode that will shoot in January. The actress said she was available. Source: Sci Fi Wire
12/07 - Grunberg AND Mia Maestro confirmed that Eric and Nadia will have a conneccion this season. "Yes, we're dating," said Mia, "I don't know how far it's gonna go... [at this point we're] just going for dinners and movies after the CIA meetings. And Grunberg couldn’t be happier at his new possible squeeze. "How awesome is she? I mean, if you're gonna have a love interest, come on, that's the way to go!" Source: Kristin on E!Online
11/29 - Kendall isn't the one who's going to die. Someone Sydney loves dearly is killed by someone else Sydney loves dearly. Source: Kristin on E!Online
11/23 - My sources tell me Melissa George is on the set at this very moment, shooting a scene with Sark (David Anders). From what I understand we will see her but not hear her. She is something of an ice queen. Was Lauren cryogenicitized? Yes, or at least that's what I'm hearing. And you know in Alias-land, when someone has been preserved, it's only a matter of time before they're back among the living, kicking boo-tay and taking names. Will is not the one who dies in season 4. Source: Kristin on E!Online
11/08 - [As for who dies on ALIAS it's not Katya,] not Sark either. It is someone who was not a series regular last season and it isn't too hard to finger! Sydney and Nadia will spend the early part of the season hunting down a killer... Source: Kristin on E!Online
11/02 - The person who’s going to die was not a series regular last season. We will find out Sloane's history, which plays into a big storyline with Sydney and Jack. Nadia is a MAJOR PLAYER this season. And Sydney and Jack won't be talking for awhile. Source: Kristin on E!Online
10/25 - There is a huge storyline coming up involving Irina (however, she’s not going to be seen). It’s a scandal revolving around Sloane, Jack and Irina. The character who dies is not Dixon nor Jack. Source: Kristin on E!Online [Note: Could this storyline answer some of the Alias hints we've posted HERE?]
10/22 - Melissa [George] is not coming back at the moment. I know some fans were frustrated, but I'm ultimately proud of last year. I'm being optimistic here, but I think Season 3 will actually improve, in retrospect, because we'll see where it went. The stories we're telling now use the best of last year to build the foundation of what happens now. I think one of the biggest mistakes I made last year was to let story and plot dictate episodes rather than have our characters run the show. There was no more Sydney as a real, normal person. [This season] we'll get a sense of her as a person, not just a suit. Part of it will be through her relationship with Vaughn, part of it will be seeing her at home, part of it will be through her relationship with her sister, played by Mia Maestro. She will be a regular this season. [The sisters relationship] won't be without its issues. Ultimately, it'll be very relatable, the kinds of things siblings experience, but transposed onto that sort of odd universe of Alias. We will see the characters return to the dynamic that worked best for them. Sloane will no longer be a peripheral character. Vaughn will no longer be the kind of meandering betrayer of Sydney. Marshall won't just be another mouthpiece in conference-room scenes. Dixon will no longer be the authority figure. And Jack will no longer just be the milquetoast dad. Source: TV Guide Online
10/03 - Excerpt from the official Season 4 description of Alias: Even more gripping and emotional events are in store this year for Sydney. She’ll be utterly devastated when she learns who her new boss is at the CIA, but she’ll be thrilled when she finds out the identity of her new partner. She’ll mourn the loss of someone close. She’ll discover the joys and heartbreaks of having -- and being -- a sister. She’ll struggle to define her relationship with the newly-widowed and now soul-tortured Vaughn. And she’ll be sickened to hear the truth about her father’s betrayal -- all the while traveling incognito, outsmarting the bad guys and keeping the world safe. Source: ABC
09/28 - Sydney will get fired very early in the season by a character that sounds like Angela Bassett, after "botching" an assignment with her new partner, who is a complete and total dufus. Vaughn is tormented by Lauren's death, regretting he killed her. In one scene, he swears he sees her and whips her around, only to find another blonde who looks vaguely like her. Sydney will be shocked to learn the identity of her new boss, and I ain’t talking Angela Bassett. There is another Sydney relative we haven’t yet met. Source: Kristin on E!Online
09/21 - Carl Lumbly, who co-stars in ABC's spy series Alias, told SCI FI Wire that season four of the show will portray the ensemble cast as a more cohesive group than season three. "If I can sort of give a broad overview for the season, we're going back," Lumbly said in an interview. "When we first found our group, they were dysfunctional. But they were together, and this season, I think we're heading back to that." [...] "This season, we're a lot clearer about who we are and where we are, and from that perspective we're turning more towards what was going on in the first two seasons." Source: Sci Fi Wire
09/15 - Bradley Cooper, who will reprise the role of Will Tippin in the upcoming fourth season of ABC's spy series Alias, told SCI FI Wire that the new season will restore the balance between character and plot that was lost last season. "The cliffhanger thing has sort of stopped," Cooper said. "The first season was constantly 'How's she going to get out of this one?' And the second season was not as much. The third season really didn't do that much in terms of the relationships and the lines through the relationships. In season four, it's more like, 'Is she trusting her father or not?'" Cooper was not a regular cast member last season, though Tippin appeared in a couple of episodes. Similarly, Cooper said that he will show up in a few fourth-season episodes. "Maybe [he'll be] in a couple of episodes," Cooper said. "The character is in witness protection." Source: Sci Fi Wire
09/13 - The new [male] boss will SURPRISE you. And Sydney will get fired. Source: Kristin on E!Online
09/10 - [Angela Bassett said]"They were just very excited about the possibility of me coming aboard and doing a couple of guest appearances, doing an arc as a character who's a CIA field supervisor." Bassett added , "She's a big muckety-muck at the CIA and is Sydney's new boss. And you don't know if I'm giving her a hard time or if I'm on her side or what, because there's always that secret-agent, double-back, secret-spy, double-agent thing going on. I'd seen the show a few times. So I was familiar with the characters, and I was a big fan of the actors. I'd worked with Carl Lumbly and Victor Garber on How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and I think Jennifer is quite extraordinary." Bassett said that she has already completed one episode and will return soon for another. She sounded optimistic that she won't meet the fate of so many other guest stars and end up either taking a bullet or falling from a building. "I hope not!" Bassett said, laughing. "In the first episode I'm a very competent person. She jabs at me, and I come back at her. I guess I could always take a bullet. You don't know." Source: Sci Fi Wire
09/09 - Excerpts from an interview with Ron Rifkin and Greg Grunberg: RON RIFKIN: We did a scene in Sydney’s house where Sydney finds me in her house. I still don’t know if my character is good or bad. GREG GRUNBERG: Tonight I’m working on a bunch of storming the castle stuff. I get to do a lot of shooting and I throw a grenade. It’s really, really cool stuff. Episode three, what we’re shooting right now is fantastic for me personally. And Jen and I do a lot of action stuff together. It’s great. Source: About.com (Click on our source to read the complete interview.)
09/04 - Excerpts from an interview with Mia Maestro: There’s a development in what the CIA’s going to turn into in the fourth season and who’s leading that, who’s the commander of that special CIA group. And that has to do with why they’re bringing me in. Plus, there’s a couple of missions that because Nadia was recruited and worked in South America, she knows that part of the world very well and helps Sydney and some other CIA agents to get out of some problems. I think Sydney’s very happy in a way that she has a half sister but at the same time, I’m the daughter of that person that she despises. She despises Sloane so it’s pretty interesting. There’s a lot of tension and comings and going and then there’s a whole other thing that I’m going to have with Jack this year that’s going to be pretty interesting too. Source: About.com (Click on our source to read the complete interview.)
09/02 - Excerpts from the article listed in our "source": Despite having called it quits, the former "Gartan" lovebirds have been required to do plenty of kissing for the cameras since they began shooting Season 4 in late July. But viewers will have to wait until January to view these super-hot scenes on ABC. Abrams previews, "They will start kissing almost immediately, but it doesn't mean things will go smoothly — or that the kissing will necessarily continue." Garner spent the earlier part of her day scuba diving in a Burbank pool for a scene in Episode 4, set in the Black Sea. With chlorine having irritated her eyes, Garner popped out her contact lenses, slipped on a pair of glasses and spoke about swimming with new series regular Mia Maestro, who was introduced late last season as Nadia, kid sister to Garner's Sydney Bristow. "We were passing one regulator back and forth sharing oxygen," said Garner. "You could see Mia thinking, 'What have I gotten myself into?' " Expect Maestro's Nadia to provide some long-overdue loving for Grunberg's Weiss. But Grunberg frets, "I have a feeling they're setting me up for something where my vulnerability in the relationship will lead to my demise." Guest stars in the new season include Angela Bassett as a CIA director and, in the works, Joel Grey as brother to Ron Rifkin'scharacter, Sloane. Rifkin says he and close pal Grey are often mistaken for each other, so the casting was a no-brainer. Source: USA Today (Click on the link to read the complete article and see a picture of Jennifer)
08/28 - According to pictures taken on the set, Sydney will wear a blond wig and will drive a red motorcycle in an upcoming episode. Source: Colourpress.com
08/09 - "Nadia is going to be living with Sydney as her roommate, that should be really cool. That's someting we have missed for Sydney, her having a close friend that she can really talk to and confide in. It's something we tried to do early on with the characters of Will and Francie, but the fact that they weren't really integrated into her spy world, made it very difficult for us to tell stories with them. I think with Nadia being a spy and becoming a part of Sydney's team and being someone that is at home, means they can really develop a good relationship. As the new family relationship on the show is going to be Nadia and Sloane, it is going to be hard for Sydney who essentially hates Sloane-her roommate's the guys daughter! It's going to be very challenging for her to balance her emotions, and be mature about it, and it's going to be tough for her to see Nadia interacting with Sloane." - Jesse Alexander Source: Alias Magazine #6 (Thanks Bre for the tip.)
08/08 - JJ Abrams revealed: "I couldn't tell you what the world thought of Sydney Bristow last year, and that was the biggest problem. So, this year, we're immediately going back to that great counterpoint of seeing her in her personal life. It doesn't mean we'll go back to exactly what the Will and Francie characters brought to the show, but it does mean we will get to see her as a person. I mean, Sydney in jeans or sweatpants is the real Sydney." "I plan on having Bradley Cooper come back." "For how many [episodes], I'm not sure yet. We've also discussed various things with Merrin Dungey, and I know she's on her own show now, too, so that would be another issue, but I would love to have Merrin back as well." JJ said that when Sark does come back, you can expect it will be for something big. "I think I'll be back for five or six episodes," Greg Grunberg told me at the ABC party. "They have a great storyline for me, something that leads to my demise, but not my ultimate demise. It'll be something like [when] I went and got shot in the neck, but something much more interesting and really cool. They're doing some great stuff." "The producer told me that I'm definitely going to go on a bunch of missions this year, so I'm excited about that," said Kevin Weisman, who plays Marshall J. Flinkman. "And I think the show is going to loosen up its proverbial tie, so to speak. Even with Marshall, I had a conversation with the wardrobe costume designer, and we're just gonna bring back that fun a little bit." "I think that people who were fans of Sydney and Vaughn will be happy to see that the relationship has some hope again," JJ told me. "I won't say it's all smooth sailing, and I won't say it's immediate, but I'll say that it's something that clearly from the beginning is one of the things you're rooting for on the show. For those who didn't quite think that they clicked in a way, I think they'll also be happy because neither character is quite the same person they were two years ago, and that has a profound affect on their relationship." Source: Kristin on E!Online
08/01 - The uninterrupted episode run isn't exactly true. Current plans are to interrupt twice - but we'd get double episodes (besides the premiere, we'd also get a midseason 2-hour ep, and a two-hour-finale). So it all evens out. Bradley Cooper apparently signed for at least 4 episodes. But my source still says 2. I'm going with 4 myself. Melissa George is current filming Amityville, and passed on Alias' offer to return. For now. Merrin Dungey has been approached to play both characters in flashbacks. (Especially during the more Sark-slanted episodes.) But I don't know her answer yet. Jack Bristow will be quite the bad guy in S4. Among other things, he knew exactly when Sydney was being tortured and where she was. And he did nothing. Kendall's new rogue-of-sorts CIA division will be the focus, rather than the actual old CIA. Sorta like how SD-6 was the focus in S1. Rumors say Sela Ward, who already has a contract with ABC from another show, has been approached to possibly play 'a' Derevko. Source: DeputyDirector, vent89, and Jinnie [Note: Spoiler rumor clarification from DeputyDirector on Sela Ward: "I don't know where this Sela Ward rumor came from... but I can tell you it's definitely not true. Irina is "not" being recast."]
07/30 - So how much is ABC loving Angela Bassett these days? The movie star will guest in an upcoming episode of “Alias,” according to an exclusive report in Entertainment Weekly, which interviewed the “Waiting to Exhale” star. “I’m gonna visit the small screen,” Bassett tells EW. “I play an FBI/CIA head honcho who gives the girl [‘Alias’ star Jennifer Garner] a hard time. They were discussing the character as a man and they said maybe they could go for a woman. And the creator [J.J. Abrams] was like, ‘Can’t see it, can’t see it.’ “And then somebody brought my name up and he said, ‘Oh, I see it.’ So he gave me a call,” Bassett says. “And he sounded so dear on the phone and I said okay.” Source: Starr Report (Thanks Carola for the tip.)
07/24 - While David Anders (Sark) is only going to be in five or six episodes next season, there is a silver lining: Sark-centric episodes. Source: Kristin on E!Online
07/19 - The gang will now be working for a COVERT leg of the CIA, so it will go back to that undergroundy feel of the first two seasons. Melissa George probably won’t be back, neither will Lena Olin. David Anders is definitely not a series regular anymore – he will be back, but only for a few episodes where he will get some good play. Same goes for Greg Grunberg, who is moving forward with his bounty hunter show called “The Catch.” He’ll be back for a handful of episodes on Alias, and also stars on Lost. (By the way, you’ll also see another familiar face on Alias as a series regular … any guesses?) [It's Kendall] and he has a "secret" now. Source: Kristin on E!Online
07/16 - Looking forward, Abrams is relishing the opportunity to right the "Alias" ship, even though much of the show's daily operation will be handled by a team that includes writer-producer Jeff Melvoin, director-producer Ken Olin and a writing staff populated with many fresh faces including "Angel" alums Jeff Bell and Drew Goddard. The crew will have extra time to get the early scripts in order and the postproduction time will be expanded, all in the name of achieving Abrams' mission. "I can tell you my mission statement: Go back to what works about the show," Abrams announces. "Go back to character first. Go back to Sydney and Vaughn as a relationship that you rooted for. Go back to Sydney and Jack as a conflict of parent and child. I don't want to say too much, because I don't want to give away where it's going, but go back the dynamics that made the show absolutely function. The irony is that I felt the show was at its best.. when SD-6 existed and that's sortta the biggest hint that I will give in that storyline." With all of these internal narrative changes, Abrams reveals that there will be some cast alterations as well. David Anders, whose Sark never properly gelled as a full-time cast member last season, will return to recurring status, a move that Abrams hopes will free the writers from stretching to insert the character into story arcs. After a full season away, it has also become increasingly less likely that Lena Olin's Irina Derevko will make a return. While recasting the part has been generally considered, Abrams isn't leaning in that direction. "In the myopic universe of 'Alias,' it would be sacrilege to recast that part," he acknowledges. "I can't imagine doing that. I would love Lena to come back. I don't think it's something she wants to do." Also in character limbo is Greg Grunberg's Eric Weiss. Grunberg is starring in "The Catch," a bounty hunter drama that Abrams has been writing and developing for some time. [...] Abrams wants ["The Catch"] to be ready for a midseason slot on ABC and if that were to happen, Grunberg's character would be written off of "Alias." Source: Zap2it (Thanks Matt for the tip.)
06/29 - [Sark is] going to be a RECURRING, not a regular, so he WILL be there, just not as much as some of the other Regular players. Last season he was a regular, but now with Nadia, they'll need to allot some more time to her ... I'm ASSUMING. I hear that producers want Melissa George (Lauren) back for a few episodes, but she has a lot going on right now - two movie offers - so it remains to be seen whether she'll actually return. Source: Kristin on E!Online
6/14 - Is Melissa George going to be doing any more episodes of Alias, even though Lauren's dead? She's in talks to. Any chance we we'll see Lena on Alias? None. She's done, done, done. The producers keep trying but I've heard she said she's never coming back. Source: Kristin on E!Online
6/14 -The staff convened as of last week, the season's being mapped out, and the S4 plots currently in the works all sound very very good. I have high hopes for S4 after everything I've heard. I'm not really going to spoil anything at the moment since things are still in flux and nothing's been written. However, I will say the following semi-spoilery stuff: ABC wants to run the eps consecutively starting January. They're planning 20 eps instead of 22. However, the premiere and the finale are currently being planned as 2 hour eps... so you still get 22 total hours of Alias. Lastly (and I won't reveal this just yet): You will NOT believe what Jack did. I suspect some of you wil be incredibly pissed. Source: Credit to DeputyDirector at SD-1.net (Thanks Jinnie for the tip)
05/24 - I've heard they're trying to negotiate a few episodes for [Melissa George to appear in next season]. Source: Kristin on E!Online
05/24 - This was posted on the ABC episode recap: [Sydney] cries as she learns that Jack wasn't in prison after Irina betrayed him, that Vaughn's father William worked for him, and that he has documented her entire life, as well as Nadia's. Source: alias_chick during the Kristin from E!Online chat
